Transmedia Accelerator: Game to Film

Develop game IP into screen adaptation strategies, proof-of-concepts and investor-ready opportunities.

The Transmedia Accelerator: Game to Film is a concrete, industry-facing programme for companies exploring how existing game worlds, characters and audiences can move into film, television, animation and other screen formats.

Launching in autumn 2026, the accelerator brings together game companies and film/TV producers for a concentrated development process focused on IP adaptation, worldbuilding, licensing, audience strategy and rapid validation.

The programme is designed for companies that want to move beyond general inspiration and into practical development: What could this game become on screen? Who is the audience? What format makes sense? What rights, partners and proof-of-concept materials are needed to take the next step?

Programme overview

Start: Autumn 2026
Duration: 3.5 months
Format: Hybrid and fully global
Price: Starting from €6,500
Final: Industry market pitching and investor-facing presentation
Includes: IPR and licensing support, masterclasses, guided development, rapid validation and final pitch preparation

The programme is built around a highly concrete development journey. Participants will work through the creative, commercial and legal questions that sit between games and screen adaptation — from understanding the business of IP to shaping a credible screen opportunity.

What the programme covers

The accelerator will include a focused range of masterclasses, workshops and development sessions covering areas such as:

  • The business of IP adaptation

  • Licensing, rights and deal structures

  • Game-to-film and game-to-TV adaptation models

  • Worldbuilding for screen

  • Narrative design and format development

  • Audience, fandom and community building

  • UGC, creator ecosystems and marketing logic

  • Proof-of-concept direction

  • Pitching to industry partners, funders and investors

  • IPR support and adaptation-readiness

The focus is practical throughout: participants will leave with clearer positioning, stronger adaptation materials, a deeper understanding of cross-industry collaboration and a more investable opportunity.

Who is it for?

  • For producers with little or no prior experience in adapting game IP, the programme offers a structured introduction to the games ecosystem, transmedia development and the commercial logic of game-based IP.

  • For companies already working with IP, the accelerator offers a concentrated rapid validation process and a chance to build more confidence in transmedial working, audience-first development and cross-industry collaboration.

  • For game studios and rights holders, the programme creates a space to explore how an existing game world could develop into film, television, animation or other screen formats, with the support of screen producers, IP experts and industry mentors.

Why this programme?

Game IP is increasingly central to the future of screen storytelling, but meaningful adaptation requires more than attaching a producer to a title.

It requires translation between industries.

Games, film and television work with different creative processes, commercial expectations, audience relationships and production timelines. This accelerator creates a structured environment where those differences can be explored, tested and turned into concrete development strategies.

The aim is not to force every game into a film or TV format. The aim is to identify which IPs have real adaptation potential, what kind of screen direction makes sense, and what materials are needed to move the opportunity forward.

A global programme with a concrete outcome

The accelerator is fully global and designed for international participation. Sessions will take place in a hybrid format, combining online development with selected in-person opportunities.

The programme will conclude with a final industry-facing pitch at an international market, where selected projects will present their adaptation direction, proof-of-concept thinking and commercial opportunity to relevant industry stakeholders.

Built on Helsinki Film Lab’s work connecting film, games, animation and IP industries through transmedia matchmaking, game jams, market sessions and international events.

Worldbuilding intensive

The programme is planned to include a focused worldbuilding intensive, giving participating companies a concentrated space to explore the screen potential of selected game IPs.

The intensive will support teams in clarifying the world, characters, audience, format potential and adaptation direction of each project. It is designed as a practical creative and commercial sprint, helping participants move from general adaptation interest toward a clearer screen strategy and proof-of-concept direction.

Further details on the format and location will be announced closer to the cohort launch.
